My time is winding down for this trip to Kenya. After a stay in Kenya for a couple of months I will return to the States for about a month, before returning to Africa. Today was a mixed bag of activities. We went to Machakos town for cleaning supplies, buckets, mops etc. that we need to clean at the Center, as well as purchasing two good-looking desk chairs for the office. 
We drove back to the O Center but could travel only about a mile through the muddy roads. We got stuck once and decided to walk the remaining miles; the guys carrying our purchases for the office. After checking out the work being done and the farm (maize and beans and the chickens) we traveled to meet young John and his mother and deliver a little food. 
John is 9 years old and not thriving. He is currently taking antibiotics for a respiratory issue (sounds like fluid), anti-convulsive phenobarbital and a couple other meds. He is not doing well and his little wrists and ankles are the diameter of quarters. He is awaiting assessment at the O Center and will probably be placed there in respite care with the goal of increasing his food intake and improving his strength. He had meningitis as an infant and has a sketchy hospital diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. 
His father left after discovering John’s condition and his mother gets pennies for assisting at a hair salon. She needs food and medications, which we will help with. We enjoyed the visit with John and look forward to assisting him and his mother after the assessment from the Pediatrician, PT, OT and Nutritionist. As of now, it is impossible for the medical professionals and the children to get to the O Center, due to the mud. We are in the process of having huge dump trucks filled with hardcore, (stones) delivered so our families and doctors can access the place. It was a great day!
