Masai Bracelets

Masai Bracelets

Fred, Benson and I went to Kiserian early this morning. We purchased some belts, beads and other items for the women to make their products. In November, a representative from Hopecrafts will come and look at what we make and hopefully buy a few things. There is another group in London who also works with Fair Trade and is interested in seeing some samples. I’ll try to drop some samples as I pass through London. So we hope that the Masai products will sell very well.

There is a sale of our African items scheduled for Saturday November 21st and Sunday November 22nd between the scheduled masses at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Burlington Kentucky. You are welcomed to stop by and see the belts, bracelets, etc. The address for the church is 5864 Veterans Way in Burlington.

We are initiating a goat project among 36 women in the manyatta. The women can buy into the project for 1200 shillings (about $15.50). Once all the women join the cooperative, the Foundation will add start-up funds and we will purchase 72 goats. Once the goats start kidding, we will sell some of the goats and sell the milk. The Foundation will be repaid and the project should be self-sufficient. Goat milk is very nutritious and helpful to children who are HIV positive. Training will take place initially and Fred will meet with the men, who also are an important component, contributing the 1200ksh and doing the vaccinations.

Mwololo is contracting with a uniform company today and they will measure for next year’s uniforms. We will purchase 64 for the preschool and 155 for children in other schools whom we sponsor.
